{edison bulbs}

Despite the fact that most of the lights in my home have been converted to CFL’s, I still have a big space in my heart for the warm glow of an old fashion filament bulb. It seems I’m not the only one missing the curls of glowing filament. Edison bulbs, also known as reproduction bulbs, are enjoying a revival. While they don’t come cheap {sometimes costing $20 a bulb}, there’s really nothing like their warmth and visual appeal.

If you’re interested, Rejuvenation has a whole host of reproduction bulbs, from 1920’s style handpainted gold globes to the classic tungsten or carbon filament bulbs. And, for those looking for a greener option, Plumen makes a gorgeous bulb, suitable for exposed bulb fixtures or cages.

A little belle du jour kitten hair and lady like trench will never get old and are perfect for a fall day. For the evening, a camel colored cocktail dress, sky high heels, and a smattering of gems. So how to get the hair? Grab your rollers, a can of spray, and a rat-tail comb. Roll. Release. Tease. Spray…. or subscribe to this blog for a video tutorial and holiday glam guide.

{friday finds: ring, ring!}

Loving the raw, earthy edge of these amazing rings by Satomi Kawakita. Her rings come in a beautiful variety of one and two finger designs, with or without stones, some being one-of-a-kind. She also makes necklaces and bracelets that are equally as cool and pretty. That grey diamond {yes, that’s a diamond} is officially on my wishlist.

A little outrageous is okay sometimes. It’s the occasional glamorous splurge that makes us feel like we’re living a little richly. Treat yourself to something indulgent this weekend, whether it be chocolate, a glass of champagne, or a day in bed. Speaking of indulging…

Congratulations to Jess Graves! I know Jess reads the blog and has been following me on twitter for quite some time. She also knows her DVF stuff and did a great job explaining her outfit.

No doubt, the Laetitia dress.

First of all, love that the print is vintage from the dvf archives. second, i’m completely obsessing over hunter greens this winter.. so on par with the deep plums and vampy wine reds we are seeing. i think i’d paint my nails in chanel’s “gondola” (it totally reminds me of 90′s 90210/silk stalkings!) and rock this dress with black tights. plus, when it gets colder, it would be great with a fur vest thrown over or a great black coat — so transitional! i could even see it in summer with a gold strappy sandal! so obsessed.”

Thanks to all who entered and have a gorgeous weekend!

{a visit to terrain}

Back from vacation in NYC & Upstate. While there, we took a trip to Terrain at Styer’s in Glen Mills, PA and also had dinner there. Although we miscalculated how long it would take to get there, it was worth it for the inspiration alone. {The food wasn’t too bad, and by that I mean it was fantastic.}

terrain at styers

As you can see from the pictures, everything is impeccably styled, in a well worn and beautifully rustic way. Each of the buildings is built to look like very chic greenhouse or a luxurious shed with large portions of the roofs made of glass panels and shaded by reeds.

I’ve been in love with these lanterns for almost a year now, but it’s quite a different thing to see them in person. They’re absolutely stunning. They give off the coziest glow, and manage to be glamorous and rustic at the same time.

So many great ideas for the home and entertaining all over the store. {A few of my favorite picks at the bottom of this post.} Let’s not even get started on the terrariums.

As for dinner, the Cafe at Styer’s is a quirky little resto that is constantly holding an event {like cowboy campfires, bluegrass night, and all sorts of tastings.} You can BYO, which I saw plenty of guests taking advantage of. At night, the lighting all over Terrain is provided by garlands of bare bulbs hung throughout the buildings and the occasional lanterns, which gave everything a heightened sense of being at a garden party at night. Of course, topiaries and plants hang everywhere; and old doors with stained glass serve as dividers between some of the booths.

As mentioned before, the food was delish! I had a duck tasting with truffled macaroni and ended the meal with chocolate stout ice cream. {In case you’re wondering, yes you can bring kids. The munchkin had hummus, macaroni, and butter almond ice cream.} My favorite touch? The bread is baked in terracotta flower pots. How adorable is that?!

{autumn & the loved one}

Autumn always inspires thoughts of warm reds and age-old soft blankets being brought out from linen chests. It’s a “cozy” season; not too cold or too warm and filled with traditions like decorating pumpkins, baking pies and muffins, and of course, anything pumpkin spice. It’s the perfect time for curling up in some lovely underthings and wrapping oneself in an old afghan. Autumn is the season of leaving the windows open a bit to let the breeze blow the curtains around and picking dried leaves or blooms. And, sometimes, it’s the season to tint your hair auburn or copper, because who could resist?
